The main purpose
of the
‘Pollinator
Habitat’ is to
provide students
with an outdoor
‘ecosystem’ that
specifically
attracts the
nectar feeding
organisms’ found
in southwestern
PA. This
‘Pollinator
Habitat’, like
the ‘Woodland
Habitat’, can be
used by teachers
as an additional
teaching tool
for not only
science but
other
disciplines as
well. With
valuable habitat
rapidly
disappearing due
to suburban
sprawl, finding
good quality
natural areas
for students to
study nature is
difficult.
Having this
‘Pollinator
Habitat’
eliminates time
and cost
involved in
busing children
to parks or
nature reserves
to observe and
study such
nectar feeding
organisms as
butterflies,
hummingbird
moths, honey
bees, and even
hummingbirds.
Not only does
this “Pollinator
Habitat’ benefit
the students but
greatly benefits
the local
organisms as
well by
providing
additional
food/water/shelter/space
they need for
survival.
